Latest read

I get loads of books at my job. Many of them I send on to my book reviewer, but several of them I've brought home to read. This book was one of them. I tore through it, engrossed in the sadness of a family who has lost their mother and husband who has lost his wife.

Although the book changes voices somewhere in the middle from the father to the son, I found it both riveting and true to life. Teenagers are hard to live with without a big challenge like a death in the family or drug abuse. Here's my review:

Second Chances Second Chances by Linda Chadwick

My rating: 3 of 5 stars
This book is very compelling about a family suffering from the recent death of their mother/wife. The father and the three children all have their own ways of coping with the death - most notably, the teenage son gets into a fight which leads to a brutal attack of retaliation. He is prescribed painkillers for broken ribs and other injuries and can't get off of them. The characters are believable and the situation heart-rending.

How can you forget?

Today, my 10-year-old said she wanted to ride her bike to school as we were getting in the car (two minutes before school was to start). The ride takes her about five to seven minutes depending on whether or not the cars stop on the busy street to let her cross. I told her that wouldn't work today, but she could plan for it tomorrow. The following conversation ensued:

Lucy: That is too long!

Me: What is too long?

Lucy: Tomorrow!

Me: What do you mean it's too long?

Lucy: I can't remember that by tomorrow?

Me: You're saying tomorrow is too far away to remember you want to ride your bike?

Lucy: Uh-huh.

Latest news

So, I've been busy with putting together a magazine and really neglectful at keeping up the blog. Here are some pics from the last three months.

Oh, I almost forgot! Guess what I'm adding to my already full plate? Baby #4.

Any wagers on the chances we'll actually get a boy this time?
